Dr. Trinh is a highly regarded refractive, cornea, and cataract surgeon based in Mosman, Sydney, known for her precision, warmth, and dedication to advancing modern vision correction. With fellowships from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), the World College of Refractive Surgery and Vision Sciences (FWCRSVS), and the European Board of Ophthalmology Subspecialty in Cornea & Refractive Surgery (FEBOS-CR), she is among the most highly credentialed surgeons in Australia.

Education & Specialist Training

After graduating with distinction in Medical Science, Dr. Trinh completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Queensland, where she was awarded the AMA Harold Plant Prize for Best All-Rounded Graduate and a scholarship in Medical Leadership. She then trained as a specialist ophthalmologist with RANZCO in Queensland before completing three advanced fellowships:

  • University of Toronto, Canada – Fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases & Refractive Surgery, mastering corneal transplantation, ocular surface regeneration, LASIK, PRK, ICLs, and keratoconus cross-linking. Appointed Chief Fellow, she was awarded the Lim Memorial Prize for outstanding surgical and teaching skills.

  • University of Toronto, Canada – Dedicated Research Fellowship in laser cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, dry eye therapies, and ocular surface disease.

  • P.E.R.F.E.C.T for Pterygium Fellowship – Training directly under Professor Lawrie Hirst, making her the only surgeon outside Queensland to hold this fellowship and a recognised leader in advanced pterygium surgery.

In recognition of her expertise, Dr. Trinh was awarded FEBOS-CR status, becoming only the second Australian ever to receive this European distinction in cornea and refractive surgery. She was also the first female Australian to be awarded Fellowship of the World College of Refractive Surgery and Vision Sciences. 

Leadership in Sydney & Beyond

Dr. Trinh was invited to join the Cornea Department at Sydney Eye Hospital, where she co-directs Australia’s only Keratoprosthesis Service. As a fellowship supervisor, she has trained more than twelve international fellows from New Zealand, Malaysia, Kenya, Spain, Israel, the Philippines, South Africa, and beyond — shaping the next generation of eye surgeons worldwide.

International Recognition & Thought Leadership

A sought-after keynote speaker at major international ophthalmology conferences, Dr. Trinh is recognised for her expertise in corneal transplantation, refractive surgery, and pterygium surgery. She has authored over 45 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to ophthalmology textbooks, and teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

She serves on the RANZCO Women in Ophthalmology Executive, is Secretary of the Global Research and Education Society of Ophthalmology (GERSO), and chairs the Refractive Surgery Terminology Committee for the Refractive Surgery Alliance.

Dr. Trinh also became the first Australian graduate of the Physician CEO Program at Northwestern University (Chicago) in 2022.
